Disease Control and Bank ATM's in Nigeria.

Good day all, Its been a while since i have written an article on this blog. But the present state of our nation regarding the recent EBOLA outbreak coupled with the attitude of our government and banks in combatting the dreaded disease has prompted me to once again pen down my thoughts and findings.

A couple of months back Nigeria got its first case of Ebola through the famous Liberian (Patrik Sawyer) who came into the country allegedly to treat his infection. This single act has brought a resounding effect on the populace. Several people have died and more are still in quarantine as a result of contact from the primary and secondary carriers of the disease. The management and control of this disease has also brought an an outstanding effect on the economy with the government spending millions of naira in trying to curb the spread of this disease.

The banks have also tried in their little effort to curb the spread by introducing hand sanitizers and other forms of disinfectants and temperature measuring  devices in their respective branches. This however in my opinion is not enough as their ATMs have the potential of spreading the disease as well. There has been several articles on the subject of ATM hygiene and how to control it. Most banks according to research  unfortunately have not taken the hygiene of their ATM's seriously for one or several reasons. One of such excuses is that they are not earning any income from the ATM's, yet they spend money maintaining and servicing this ATM's. Their customers are unfortunately going to bear the consequence of this policy as the ATM keypads, screens etc carry deadly germs which have the potential of spreading from one customer to the other by just touching the ATM keypads or screens.

The banks therefore  have to take proactive steps in improving the hygiene of their ATM's, if they are serious in combating the spread of disease, especially with this recent outbreak of EBOLA. The Central bank of Nigeria also has a key role to play in this as they can formulate policies to enforce banks to improve the hygiene of their machines

Below is a link to an article that was written earlier on the state of ATM's in Nigeria and the attitude of our banks in the control or spread of diseases via their ATM's.

I hope this short article is educative and will hopefully bring the needed change in the hygiene of our ATM's.
Till next time stay blessed
Regards.
